Biography
I was raised in
Tucson, Arizona, and my husband is from Alamagordo,
New Mexico, so we both appreciate the beauty of the southwestern desert where
we live.
Our eldest son is a
computer engineer who designs flight simulators for Lockheed. He has three
children and one grandchild and lives on 10 acres of rural desert land.
Our daughter and
her husband, a BYU computer systems designer, have two daughters and three
grandchildren.
Our youngest son
has a degree in optical engineering and has several patents for his optical
system designs. However, his love of the outdoors has attracted him to work as
a maintenance technician for Marriot Hotels in Avon, Colorado, where he can
hike, bicycle, ski and snowboard in the Colorado Mountains.
While our children
were young, my husband and I, both engineers, chose to teach together so we
could be with our children and each other as much as possible. We retired from teaching in 2007. Doug obtained his PhD in Economic Policy in
2022 and is writing a book simplifying economics, and
articles for his website on practical economics.
We both enjoy music
and have played classic 50’s and 60’s
music in rock bands for many years, performing together so far over
200 times for over 17000 persons.
After founding the Aravaipa Hiking Club in 2004 I led over 50 hikes into Aravaipa Canyon. I
have been guide for the Southern Arizona Hiking Club for 30 years and have
climbed over 150 different mountain peaks in southern Arizona.
In 2018 I founded
the ORCA (Oracle Center for the Arts) acoustic music jam. I am a member of the Desert Bluegrass
Association and Old Time Fiddlers Association, and play fiddle for square
dances and contra dances.
An amateur radio
operator since I was 14, K7EBS is my general class amateur radio license call
sign.
We have two pet
horses, and lots of wild animals (rabbits, birds, bobcat, fox, coyote, coati, racoon, javelina, deer, gila monster, snakes) that live
near our desert home.
